Righto Landlord

Do I still need to give tenants the How to Rent guide?

Facts last checked

Transcript

Do I still need to give tenants the How to Rent guide? No. GOV.UK withdrew the How to Rent guide on 1 May 2026. For a new tenancy in England you now give written information about the key terms before the tenancy is agreed. GOV.UK says the guide is withdrawn and not up to date. Because it describes the old rules, for example on section 21, it can mislead a tenant about their rights, and it does not replace the written information you now have to give. It is kept only for tenancies where the landlord served a section 21 notice before 1 May 2026. GOV.UK says a landlord who does not give it for a tenancy created on or after 1 May 2026 could be fined up to £7,000. Read the full answer, with every source, at rightotax.co.uk.
